In The Army Now...

Last night marked the next step of my journey to Afghanistan as I officially came under Army control. The day started with the long bus ride from Norfolk only to be made longer by the bus breaking down allowing for the pleasant "opportunity" to visit my first ever Greyhound bus station. If you have never been to a bus station you are probably American. There is no need to go to one unless you are looking to beg for money because that is what everyone there does. On my way in to use the restroom I was immediately welcomed by a young man in dire need of my assistance. He pleasantly introduced himself as "Five-oh-five" and explained that he lived in that building over there (pointing to a wall) and that he needed four dollars to get home. I thought that was a little pricey considering the building was just over there and he was unable to break a hundred anyway. When we finally got a "new" bus we continued to the Army base where we will continue our combat training. The purpose for us coming here is that since we will be working for the Army we need to understand how the Army works. We arrived and checked into our room. Note how I did not say room(s). We are all in the same room. Here it is:

This is awesome because I've always wanted a bunk bed.  Unfortunately no one bit when I asked, "can I sleep on top of you?"  I took the next logical step and made a fort out of pillows and blankets.  The beds are small and no one can tell me how to adjust my Sleep Number.  When lights finally went out I was pretty excited to get some much needed shut eye.  However, it is a natural law that the guy that snores ALWAYS falls asleep first.  AND he sleeps next to me.  He snores in Bose Surround Sound so clearly that the THX theme played.

I woke up this Sunday morning and decided I would check out the chapel service which had a mighty congregation of four.  If you ever go into church and there are only three other people expect to get looked at A LOT.  My flowered church hat was all the rage.  When I got back we had to meet for some training.  The Army isn't THAT different from the Navy which was evident once we did the same exact training that I did last week.  Tomorrow we are supposed to get new toys so I will keep you updated.
